Java soon to be opened !
Here is a good news for Nuxeo 5 : Sun CEO
sets open source Java time frame
As we read in a few discussion threads after the release of NXRuntime and Nuxeo Core, some
people were pointing out that, with our Java switch, we
weren’t using a full open source stack anymore. These discussions will be
over soon.
As well, some people asked us if we considered making Nuxeo 5 running using
gcj. Well, … we have been trying to leverage gcj with the NXLucene
project where we were using Lucene
through gcj. This is working ok but what a pain… It appeared to be
extremely complicated to find the right version of gcj depending on the
target platform on production and that caused us lots of worries… So
definitely not a viable option. Ask the hosting companies if you are not
convinced … As well, a lot of … Read more
Nuxeo Core 1.0 released !
I’m proud to let you know that we released Nuxeo Core 1.0
! This is the first release of the new embeddable document
management core that is the foundation of the upcoming Nuxeo 5 ECM platform.
Nuxeo Core is an embeddable document management core, based on Nuxeo
Runtime. It provides all necessary low-level services to define, store,
manage, audit, request and search content. It is the kernel of Nuxeo 5 and can also be
embedded in third-party applications to provide advanced content management
features. It can run on any Java platform, can be easily extended using
plug-ins (thanks to Nuxeo Runtime)
and implements JCA (Java EE Connector Architecture) to be easily plugged
into existing applications or information systems.
Nuxeo core key features :
- Model: content management concepts definition
- Storage Manager: low-level content storage and retrieval
(JCR-based) - Schema Manager: XMLSchema based content schema definition and
management - Version Manager: versioning management
Open source ECM business breakfast was great !!!
The business breakfast we set up with Euriware las week was a great
success !!! We were in a nice room opening on a fancy garden at the House
of Latin America. We enjoyed presenting
our open source ECM solutions and business offers. But I have to confess
that we encountered a little problem… There were not enough chairs and a lot of
interested customers
Trust me I love this kind of problems!
Next month, I’ll be in Bamako to talk about the interest of open source
ECM in Africa and in Berlin to present Nuxeo and our business approach
during the JBoss World.
Stay tuned!

OOo Extensions Project Hot Topics
After the OOo 2.0.4 annoucement that provides new extensions improvement
such as licencing and new extension .oxt, the extensions team is hard
working setting up an ecosystem for developping extensions
The main points actually worked on are
- Translation toolkit : A long discussion has occured focusing mainly on the backend storage
format (xml xcu OOo file format, po files, java properties format). While
this is important the main focus regarding Extensions usability is to give
developpers a cool and simple API to use and translators of every skill
level a versatile tool to provide and test translations
It seems something is beeing studied at Basic IDE level but this rather a
new sun internal project and will be limited to dialogs translation on
first release. This may be available in OOo 2.2+ and probably not downward
compatible.
As a short term solution, our great Paolo proposed a solution based on
A second blog
Just to let you know: I have decided to split this blog in two distinct blogs for more clarity, ecm, java and cps related things will remain here, while python related things will now be written in a secondary blog: Carpet Python.

How to transform an Open Source ECM project into a Success ?
Euriware and Nuxeo give you a good reason to wake up early in the morning ! We’ll have the great pleasure to welcome you next thursday (10/19/2006) from 8 to 11 AM for an information breakfast, to share our experience about Open Source ECM projects and document management.
This meeting will give you the keys to transform your Open Source ECM project into a real success and to optimize the use of Open Source softwares.
I’ll be pleased to present Nuxeo’s document management products (including a live demonstration) and to discuss with you about the advantages of Open source ECM solutions.
And last but not least… As a cherry on top of the cake, Areva NC will be there to make a testimonial about their own success based on Nuxeo’s solutions.
